The Complex, One-of-a-kind Flavor of a Centenarian Tea Tree.
“Zairai” refers to indigenous cultivars rooted in the land since ancient times. Unlike artificially bred cultivars, these are trees that have adapted and taken deep root in their soil over a long history.
This Nagatoki tree is believed to be over 100 years old. Considering that standard tea bushes are typically replanted after 30 to 50 years, this is an astonishingly long-lived tree.
The complex and rich cup produced by such a tree. The Umami isn’t overpowering, and a slight astringency lingers in the aftertaste before cleanly fading away. It's an elusive yet unforgettable flavor, a taste unique to a time-honored, old-growth tree.
What to notice: The complex aroma created by the passage of time. The charm of an old-tree tea that is refreshing yet subtly diverse in flavor.
